BELLY
DANCE is a general term for an ancient, diverse group
of women's dances with a myriad of influences from India, North
Africa, the Near and Middle East and the West. It is also known as Oriental Dance,
perhaps more correctly, because it originated in the East. There are many cultural and musical influences that contribute to our contemporary collection
of movements under the general umbrella of Belly Dance. Traditional folk dances, influences of other dance forms and
resulting fusion styles are all " belly dance," characterized by isolations, undulations and pronounced hip movements.
Goddessdance Bellydance develops self awareness and expression through movement by connecting heart, head and soul. It draws on archetypal movements that originate in ancient traditions
and shared experiences of femininity, accentuating the creativity,
power and grace of the feminine form, bringing out the goddess within!
A "goddess" is a woman who is confident, strong, and gracious. She knows who she is and acknowledges the gifts she brings to the world, in turn honoring the contributions of others. She can be serious, sensual, playful, passionate, sagacious, expressive, reserved, caring, independent, youthful, mature, humorous or proud, and is most likely many of these and more!
The beautiful and passionate art of belly dance is the most direct way I've found to connect with the essence of the soul that embodies the Divine Feminine. One of my greatest joys is to share the experience with others. I feel I've succeeded when the women I teach appreciate who they are, as they are, and let out the dancer within! -Zenya
